Content Delivery content delivery waste management data-driven insights UX Design

Separating waste in and around buildings

The course “Content Delivery” focused on reducing and separating waste in and around the HvA. We chose this case because waste management was a pressing issue for both us and the client. Our goal was to use data-driven insights to deliver tailored content to different stakeholders through suitable platforms.

Overview

In and around the HvA, waste, including litter, has a significant impact on the environment. It’s disheartening to witness the presence of litter scattered across the area, comprising fast food packaging, cigarette butts, used drink bottles, chewing gum wrappers, broken glass, food waste, and more. Such accumulation of discarded waste not only creates a negative image but also poses a challenge for maintaining a clean and sustainable environment The concept We developed an application that helps users understand their environmental impact and improve recycling habits. It includes:

  • Visual representations and information design illustrating the consequences of not disposing of waste properly or recycling, tailored to the user.
  • Displaying the nearest trash bins and tracking the user’s recycling efforts, showcasing the positive environmental impact of their actions.
  • Implementing a point system where users earn points for each item recycled, which can later be redeemed for discounts at cafes, the canteen, etc.
  • Providing insights into how different educational programs perform in terms of recycling, fostering competition between friends and programs.

Reflection

Throughout the project on Content Delivery, I acquired valuable insights and honed my skills as a UX and Visual designer. Engaging in the case of waste reduction and separation in and around the HvA, I developed a deep understanding of the significance of context and meaningful content in conveying information with impact. Our approach revolved around utilizing data to create tailored content that effectively catered to the needs of diverse stakeholders, while ensuring its delivery through suitable platforms.
