Introduction to Programming

During my first year of studies, I had the opportunity to explore the field of programming through the Introduction to Programming course, which played a crucial role in the CMD curriculum. As a UX Research Designer, I believe it is important to have a foundational understanding of technology. This course allowed me to develop basic programming knowledge and skills, enabling me to effectively communicate and validate my ideas through prototypes. Exploring the possibilities of creating with code was particularly valuable as a designer.

Project: Kitty - A Tamagotchi Simulation

As part of the course, I undertook a project called “Kitty,” inspired by the simplicity and entertainment value of the tamagotchi toys I enjoyed in my childhood. The concept was to create a virtual pet that users could interact with by providing care, food, and drinks. Neglecting Kitty’s needs would cause her to become sad until she eventually left.

Skills Utilized

• HTML & CSS: These foundational web technologies allowed me to structure and style the visual elements of the Kitty simulation, creating an engaging user interface. • Javascript: By leveraging Javascript, I added interactivity to the prototype, enabling Kitty to respond dynamically to user interactions. This helped bring the virtual pet experience to life.

Reflection and Growth

This project challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and dive into coding, despite initially having little knowledge in this area. Through perseverance and a willingness to learn, I discovered my affinity for programming and the unique perspective it brings to my UX Research Design practice.
